ACSIS Is a Multifunctional Universal System for Balancing Heavy and Super-Heavy Rotors

This week, two ENSET ACSIS balancing machines for super-heavy rotors are being shipped to customer facilities.

In a world where power and performance are often measured in megawatts and tonnes — and precision in microns — balancing super-heavy rotors is critical. From giant power station turbines to massive shafts of industrial machinery, even a minor unbalance can lead to serious consequences: reduced efficiency, premature wear, or even total failure. Spinning a rotor weighing tens of tonnes requires enormous energy — the slightest deviation of the axis from the ideal centre of mass creates centrifugal forces capable of deforming the structure and causing significant vibrations. Conventional balancing methods, suitable for lighter components, are simply ineffective at this scale.

Based on decades of design experience, ENSET has developed the ACSIS series — horizontal hard-bearing machines for balancing heavy and super-heavy rotors. Available with belt or end drive, the system is built on a modular platform and powered by high-performance servo motors.

ACSIS series machines by ENSET feature:

  1. Extreme load capacity: a robust design and built-in safety margin ensure reliable operation under heavy loads and dynamic forces over a service life of 20+ years.

  2. High-precision measurement: ACSIS machines reliably detect unbalance down to 0.1 gmm/kg, even on the heaviest components.

  3. Controlled part rotation: smooth speed variation from 30 to 6,000 rpm; featuring continuous vibration monitoring from the lowest rotational speeds, alongside automatic shutdown if safe limits are exceeded.

  4. Accurate unbalance correction: up to 95 % unbalance reduction ratio (URR) using a high-precision 23-bit encoder for rotor positioning. Optional modules for drilling, milling and spot welding enable real-time correction directly on the machine.

  5. Advanced drive system: a high-performance digitally controlled servodrive provides precise speed regulation, automatic angular positioning, and rotor position holding for unbalance correction. The servodrive also ensures smooth rotor acceleration and deceleration, minimising shock loads on the component, the drive and the machine structure. This extends the equipment service life and enhances its safety.

  6. Modular integration: the modular architecture and measuring system support integration with automation systems and devices, enabling multifunctional automated and robotic balancing solutions.

  7. Energy efficiency: ACSIS machines are equipped with advanced high-efficiency servodrives and a built-in energy recovery system during braking — particularly important for the powerful servo motors used to rotate super-heavy rotors.
  8. ACSIS series machines, like other ENSET balancing equipment, are featuring the proprietary VIBROLAB-5 measuring system which is listed in the State Register of Measuring Instruments under No. 97688-26, with a verification interval extended to three years. Thanks to an intuitive interface and built-in prompts, operators can master the basics of the system in just three hours.

For expert users, VIBROLAB-5 offers advanced functionality, including detailed analysis of amplitude-phase frequency characteristics, multi-plane balancing of flexible rotors, control of automatic unbalance correction devices, and full integration into Industry 4.0 production lines via SCADA, MES and ERP systems.

Servodrive-powered ACSIS horizontal balancing machines for super-heavy rotors up to 60 tonnes are the gold standard in dynamic balancing. They ensure the reliability, performance, and longevity of mission-critical equipment across all sectors where rotor size and weight are critical, including energy, heavy engineering, shipbuilding, and more.

Investment in such technologies pays off by reducing operating costs and downtime, preventing accidents, and extending the service life of expensive machinery. In the world of super-heavy rotors, balancing precision and efficiency are not merely desirable, but essential.
